For the first time in 75 years, Norway has earned a medal at the IIHF World Championship, capturing bronze with a stunning overtime victory over Canada.
One player who turned heads throughout the tournament was Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Tinus Luc Koblar.
Koblar finished with six goals and three assists in 10 games while posting a plus-9 rating, helping lead Norway to a historic finish.
Selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft, the 18-year-old continues to take important strides in his development. His performance at the World Championship provided another encouraging glimpse into his potential.
Koblar outscored one of the projected 2026 top prospects, Ivar Stenberg, despite being just 71 days older. Interestingly, Koblar missed eligibility for the 2026 NHL Draft by only 56 days, making his tournament production even more noteworthy when compared to one of the top players in next year's class.
While Stenberg remains the more highly regarded prospect, Koblar's two-way play, athleticism and consistency were evident throughout the tournament. Standing six-foot-three and weighing 200 pounds, he combines size with strong skating ability, allowing him to impact the game in all three zones.
The question now becomes what Koblar's ceiling might be at the NHL level. Could he develop into a second-line centre, and can his timeline align with other key Leafs prospects such as Easton Cowan, Ben Danford and potentially Gavin McKenna?
Koblar is unlikely to be NHL-ready in the immediate future, but his next step will be an important one. He is expected to join Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League, a move that should provide a strong development environment as he continues his progression. For Maple Leafs fans, he will be a prospect worth monitoring closely over the coming years.
